It's 2019 and you only hear the occasional vague news from China about a new virus. “Yeah, maybe a new swine flu, what the heck” - that's what most people think (including me). The world still seems to be in order. I recently bought the 25th anniversary collector's edition of Warcraft and thought to myself - how cool the character is. I've collected collector's editions of computer games before, but most of them came with an artbook, a mouse pad and a T-shirt or something like that.

So when the collector's edition of Warcraft 3: Reforged was announced and it was revealed that it would only be available for the Chinese market, I made up my mind - I have to have it! Luckily, I was still in contact with a former fellow student who lived in Singapore in 2019 and spoke Chinese. We quickly discovered the world of resin statues.

I was overwhelmed!

It was too good to be true! I could put a 70cm Lich King Arthas in my living room. Arthas, who accompanied me throughout my childhood. The Arthas who, alongside his father, also destroyed my heart in 2002.

But how? How do I get hold of something like that? Well, by simply transferring €3000 to my friend and he... yes... transfer this money to some studio in China. The Christmas bonus that was supposed to be our vacation left my PayPal account faster than my 1-year-old son reaches for sharp knives. And then... nothing. 1 month passed. 2 months passed. 2,5... My friend couldn't get any information from the studio either, he was simply ignored. I get my first gray hairs. 3 months later, 2 packages show up at my door; just like that, one day. Arthas Menethil and Illidan Stormrage, you are finally under my care.

It's also the day I decide that no collector (read: crazy addict like me) should get gray hair for the same reasons. It's the birth of HandsomeCake Goodies.

With us you have a local contact person, most studios in China are now familiar with us, we are not so easily ignored and we can get one or two discounts ready to go. My friend has now become a business partner, moved to Hong Kong and we have rented a larger (temporary) storage space there together.

We've had our ups and downs - the war outbrake in Ukraine and the following energy crisis drew a lot of people away from the hobby. This caused us a lot of existential troubles as we're the only legally operating reseller in whole EU, thus, offering order cancellation. Now imagine 100 people cancelling their orders at once. Where to get this money from? Somehow we survived and started investing in new warehouse software, new shop system (where you actually read this right now) and overall a more pleasant experience.
